Title: Two options

You have two options when integrating “Pay by Bank” into your checkout:

• Option 1: Brand it as your own

  • Use your brand name to create a custom payment method (e.g., “{Brand name} Pay”). You’re in control of the naming, allowing you to align it with your existing branding.
  • Benefit: This builds trust by making customers feel the payment is being processed directly by you, increasing the likelihood that it will be selected.

• Option 2: Use “Pay by Bank”

  • Use the name “Pay by Bank” as a neutral, unbranded payment method.
  • Benefit: This makes it clear to customers that the payment is processed directly with their bank, providing reassurance and a sense of security.

Bank Logos

• Show logos of the most popular banks in your region.

  • Why?

    • Recognised logos provide reassurance, signalling that the payment is secure and directly handled by the customer’s bank.
    • This helps users understand that a wide variety of banks are available. Even if their specific bank isn’t shown, they’ll assume theirs is available, increasing confidence in continuing.
    • Seeing bank logos also sets the expectation for the next step, where they’ll be asked to select their bank. This prepares users for the upcoming process and has been shown to increase conversion by reducing uncertainty.

Subtitle

• Recommended subtitle: “Pay directly from your bank account — secure, easy, and no card needed.”
  • Why? The subtitle emphasizes the key benefits, addressing concerns about security, and the convenience of not needing a card.

Badge

• “Recommended” badge: Consider adding a “Recommended” label styled to fit your branding

  • Why? Featuring a “Recommended” badge boosts both conversion and checkout share, as users are more likely to choose an option that appears to be the top recommendation.

• “Fastest” badge: Use a “Fastest” badge in payment selection screens where the only other option is a manual bank transfer.

  • Label manual transfers clearly: We recommend explicitly labeling regular bank transfers as “Manual” to differentiate between the options. For example, use “Manual SEPA” to indicate that the process may take longer.
  • Why? This clearly informs customers that they have the option for a fast, automated bank transfer, compared to a slower, manual process.

• Provide additional details: Include an info icon next to the payment option title that displays a tooltip when clicked or hovered over.
  • Why? This helps users who are unfamiliar with the method understand how it works.

Default positioning

• Position it first in the list of payment methods: Position “Pay by Bank” as the first option on the checkout page. Pre-select Pay by Bank to streamline the payment process for users.
  • Why? Positioning it first increases trust by signaling that it’s your preferred method, while pre-selecting reduces friction. This leads to a higher share of checkout as it simplifies the decision-making process for customers.
